God bless Al Gore for inventing the internet, because of which in 2010 we were able to notice some of the best happenings in the Indiean Underground via the WWW. Be it the Rock in India website Hack or the LOG Pre Party gig fiasco, we witnessed it all, and we at IRMP3 definitely did not fail to notice over  a dozen of Alternative (and Rock) bands release EP’s almost every month. From Seize her’s Please her (Not pleased at all!) to Blech’s Made in Malad, we made sure every EP was heard, after all you bandwale put your sweat blood and money to produce them right?. And thanks again to Al Gore, we are now able to bring you our choice of  Top Rock/Alt EP’s of 2010. We have not ranked them, this list is not in any particular order, agree or disagree do tell us about it in the comments section.

Five8- Five8 : The only rock ep release of the year, and definitley a good one at that. The band that is more famous for their photographer-keyboardist Shiv Ahuja but have a vocalist who could give Sab bach a run for the money. Five8  delivered a kickass self titled 4 track ep which is a  free giveaway (digital) along with some of their old tracks as bonus. This is one of the finest releases of the year, or stand out from the rest as there are no contenders in the ‘rock’ category.  Believe, Funkuation are couple of the better  tracks from the EP, but ‘Wake me up when it’s tomorrow’ will always be the best Five8 track.  Download it here to believe it.

The Bicycle Days – 42: This is one band that surfaced on the indie radar out of nowhere and is here to stay. The Bicycle days debut offering was an instant hit among psychedelic fans,(review here). Karthik Basker and the gang put up one magnificent effort in self produced 42. And their live shows are said to be quite a feat to watch. “The band speaks of intrepid lyrical subjects and is explicitly the one to stand comfortably for itself. Also their debut is sure to arouse fans and critics comparable, and deserves repeats, on your music contrivances that is. ”said Soumil Nigam in his review on IRMP3. If this band sticks around for a while we are looking at the next TAAQ in the making.

CyanideNot Over yet: It’s Not over yet, a clear message that Cyanide sent to their fans through this free download EP. The band emerged from its self imposed on/off hibernation with a superbly produced release. Not over yet, Pretence, couple of the best tracks from the EP (although crowd favorite Untold Misery was messed up with). And true to their promise the band has now entered the ‘grey’ studio’s to record its full length album which should be out early next year. This is a band to surely watch out for in 2011. Download Not over yet here, good shizz, you won’t regret it.

Digital Suicide- Digital Suicide: You know a good band when you hear one! From the first time we heard Digital Suicide from Guwahati we had to rate them PFG. This trio has belted one kickass record in their 5 track EP which is produced at Lucid Recess Studio . Prophet, Paint Me Dry are couple of our picks from the EP. The band recently performed at the mega event GIR in Delhi. This band could go miles, if they tighten some lose ends  and get their social networking skills right! Download it here, It’s Free!

Split - P is for pig: OK ! the kvltest Alternative Rock EP of the year. Mumbai based Split, one of the oldest surviving alterative rock bands made a grand comeback, Thats also in style wth an ep release. P is for Pig is a compilation of some of Split’s old songs along with couple of new ones. It’s a stand out effort by one of India’s premier Alternative rock bands. 60 seconds, Pig society and balladic Isn’t it Strnage are our picks from the lot, although surprisingly the band did not include their popular songs like Build (higher), My house which could have made this EP more spicier.  P is for Pig release was followed by a nationwide tour, along with the free digital release, the band did give out Free CD’s to fans!! How cool is that?
