Western music in Shillong is a matter of tradition. Recording albums, performing on television or being written about are not really important. To play for the love of it is. Music is a movement in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, the Scotland of the east and the rock capital of India. It is one of the few sources of growing entertainment in this city. Everyone can play an instrument. It’s difficult to locate a city in India with as strong an affinity for original blues, rock and roll, death metal or country than Shillong, which is why the few who understand these genres of music find it sensible to play there. Still, the lack of exposure and money did not allow musicians in this region to make a career in what they enjoyed doing best. With the advent of International and National gigs happening, local bands have been given a boost to do what they love best. Play their music. One such band is Polyticks, a small town band with big dreams. They bring a mix of blues, grunge and a whole lot of good old loud rock’n roll to the table!! They’ve had a good number of shows under their belts though not enough. A band that takes what they get and make the most out of it!! Their influences ranges from legends like the Beatles to heavier stuff like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath to The Who, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Bob Dylan and others. They are yet to be signed with any record label, so if any label out there want this talanted band check them out at www.myspace.com/polyticks5

*Hello there. My name’s Ajoy and I write about Indian Rock for a living. I do this for two reasons. Firstly, I really love music. Secondly, I love MUSIC! And yes, I am a teensy bit arrogant…but it’s okay, because it’s all done with lashings of self-deprecation and irony.
