The Year That Was 2009 – Inner Sanctum

Submitted by IRMP3 on January 1, 2010 – 3:00 PM2 Comments

Name : Inner Sanctum

City : Bangalore

How was 2009 for you and your band, what do you think has been the best thing to happen for the Indian Rock scenario in 2009?
2009 has been fabulous for Inner Sanctum. We have pretty much won every competition we took part in…the ones we didn’t .. still ended up being some of the best shows we have ever played. However the best thing for us was definitely releasing our EP, Provenance. We are real proud of it and etremely overwhelmed by the kinda response it has received.

The local scene has also shown a lot of promise with tonnes of releases this year and not to mention a huge number of international acts coming down here. Who would have expected that Iron Maiden, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Textures, Intronaut, Amon Amarth and more bands would have played here and we got to see them all in a span of 12 months.

What are your Favorite song / album from 2009?
Like we said earlier. Loads of releases this year…I think one of the most stand out ones has been Amogh Symphony’s latest offering.

Other than that as a Bangalore band we saw a few releases that are worth mentioning like Parachute XVI, Theorized and Eccentric Pendulum.

Another impressive release was Bhayanak Maut’s debut album. The way it has been packed, and presented is a huge step from what has been happening in the scene at the moment. Its great to see bands taking themselves seriously.

Another good release would have to be the new Something Relevant CD.

Please share an instance on/off-stage that you can’t forget from 2009.
Haha well on and off stage incidents eh…well here’s one, I-Rock Bangalore leg finals Gaurav (our vocalist) jumps off stage to ligthen up a dead crowd in a fancy pub only to land on a floor full of pebbles losing his balance and falling down…to cover the hilarity of the situation he starts headbanging vigiourously sitting down on the floor…that was a sight to see. After we were declared the winners Naveen Deshpande emceeing the event called him up to the midddle and made him do it again.

What is your and your company’s / band’s plan for year 2010?
Well have no concrete plans as such. However we do plan on writing new material which is already in progess btw, and play more shows outside Bangalore to expand our audience and somewhere down the line hope to accumulate enough money and record a full length album. We also plan on getting more groupies as we are tired of being flaccid haha….Any Takers???

If you had to change something from the year gone by what would that be?
Hmmmm….how about making the Porcupine Tree gig in Bangalore instead of Bombay…we could have saved on air tickets then.

Yeah we are very money minded bunch of bastards.

How do you think the Indian rock scene will change from 2010 onwards?
More international bands will come down, Indian bands will go international. We will get laid more often and have more money which means more booze. We like where this is heading.
