Review: Great Eastern Rock Vol1 – V/A
The Great Eastern Rock Vol1 is the brain child of Editor in Chief of ‘The NorthEast Today’ Magazine Mr P.B.K Manikya (Maharaja of Tripura) whose great efforts also brought classic rock bands like Firehouse and White Lion to India. The Great Eastern Rock Vol1 comprises of 12 bands from North East India along with two bands from South India (Heretic , RatKing) and Two International bands( Firehouse, White Lion).
The album features some well know bands from the North East such as Boomarang, Lucid Recess, Dwar along with rising bands like Pip of the Fourth Mother, Flashflood, Eye2Eye, and Death in Serenity. Sound wise the album has bit of every genre from reggae to punk to Metal. All that you are(NinthSide), War (Boomarang) Shillong (Pip of the Fourth Mother), Seven Sisters (Eye2Eye), Change Myself (North Wind) are some notable catchy songs from the album.
Although mix on this album does disappoint a bit, but as we know it is a compilation of bands from 7 different states and recorded in 12 different studio’s it is negligible. Even the album art disappoints, as the track listing hides the burning guitar in the backdrop, but again, it is negligible given the fact that the CD is a free giveaway with 2nd Anniversary edition of The NorthEast Today for just INR 25.
Final verdict: Superb bands, catchy songs, one Great initiative by The NorthEast Today Magazine. Great Eastern Rock Vol1 is just the beginning of great things to come.

…Superb bands, catchy songs, one Great initiative…??????
It is obvious you have no idea whats the meaning of the words ’superb bands’ or ‘great initiative’. the music on the cd was old, lame and lacked quality in all aspects, a project done more to sell a magazine which knows the effect music has on people in the ne. a magazine that extols the workings of corporate houses in exchange for advertisements/money
while there are ‘good bands’ in the NE none of them featured on the cd simply cause none of the bands were compensated at all!!! is this fair??? is this how one promotes the art of making music??? is this the ‘Great initiative’ you speak about??? …use music to sell magazines and to hell with the musician???
wake up!!! our bands need real support and this begins with understanding the value of the time, effort and money spent by musicians in pursuing their art… not giving the musician/band a false sense that they will gain publicity while they cant afford to buy guitar strings etc… the magazine pays its drivers/writers/chai-wallas etc. but cant pay the musician whos responsible for increasing the sale of the magazine…SICK!!!!!!!!!
Hey man!
First I’m a nobody.. Just a regular joe who keeps interest in Indian bands and supports it with out much fuss… Thats me
First you say that none of the ‘good bands from NE’ were covered..
.
then you say only Soulmate, LouMajaw, and ‘may be a couple of Mizo bands’ are good. I am confused
Anyways… as for the mix goes.. i know its 2009, but if Mixing/Mastering was cake walk we would see every worthless Tom Dick and Harry come out with a Album… unfortunately that is not the case…
As far ‘unreal’ review… You have your views… I have mine
As for bringing change… I have done my bit … what have you done?
How do i get my hands on this album..
War dog help ?
hahahaha….hahaha…lmao
rofl

Hey folks, what’s the fight for ? Someone here is so blind that she thinks Soulmate, Great Society, Lou Majaw and few other Mizo bands are the only “GREAT” bands from NE !!! Har har har….. Did i hear her mention “i have been engaged in music here in the NE for 15 + years, joe, i do know what i am speaking about.” ???? Please people tell me i read that wrong !!! Man, i’d love to see her PhD in music asap ! What are you doing kong ? 15+ years is just too long sitting and wasting time just listening to music – if you don’t have your PhD by now !!! What a waste !!! Ok, back to where we started – If she’s in NE and engaged in music for the last 15+ years, how came you never know of other GREAT BANDS of NE who already made it to national and international scene ??? Were you sleeping all these time ? Naahhhh….. bet you can beat the shit out of Rip Van Winkle for the next Guiness World Record in Shillong !!! There were many talented and quality bands from NE who even made it to the International stages. Well, let me refresh someone who’s trying so hard to beat the record. There was this band from Manipur PHOENIX later christened PHYNYX, CANNIBALS, POSTMARK, WARLOCK, and some bands from other states like MALADROID, EXCALIBUR, ROUGH ROADS, BLADE n BLOOD, RIPRAP, BOOMARANG, PROPHECIES, MAGDALENE, A4APPLE, B4BALL, C4CAT and many more. Some of these bands even went on to perform in national stages and few in international stages too. I know of few bands from NE who performed in Bangladesh. Well, Bangladesh is international arena too – if it is not, well, go ahead and prove me wrong and make my day !!! Miss 15+ PhD, do you know any of these bands and their achievements ? How can you ever underestimated the talents and professionalism of the NE Bands and musicians ? All these bands struggled so hard to buy even a set of 6 strings, leave alone the recording process. Someone here is speaking about the recording quality here and well it is 2009 indeed, but man do you know that there are places in Meghalaya and some other stages where there is no electricity !!! How can you possibly understate that all the recordings in GER are bad or substandard ??? Have you ever been to a bands rehearsal room or practise sheds ? Infact, when I was in a band in Pune, we recorded in a small tape recorder and it was selected for RSJ GIR !!! What do you have to say about that man ??? Do you think the GER bands intentionally spoiled their own songs / recording ? C’mon man, be logical and think before you write any damn thing about anyone. You may be the fast gun Murugan or the lovely lady Lolla Kutty, but, mind it – North East Bands are no less than ROCK MACHINE, AGNI, PARIKRAMA or any other Indian bands in the big cities. Ok, for a change bring down any international bands (without equipments) to any village, town or city of North East and set them free for next 10 years – You will see them struggle hard, hunting for equipments, borrowing guitars, playing in AIR or DDKs and lastly they will end up auditioning for GIR and GER. Know what ? North East is good place for music and rock shows but at the same time the upcoming bands do have their own difficulties like finance, sponsors, contracts, exposure and above all free publicity. Hope you get my message loud and clear now. What TNT did by bringing out GER is they help upcoming bands by providing some platform and exposure + free publicity. Well sleepy head, tell me will any other magazine in NE do that for the NE bands and still sell the mag for dirt cheap Rs 25/- ? Oh…. I forgot, did you hear about that band from NE who performed in Tashkent in 2001 ? That’s not more than 15 years, is it ? Keep scratching your head and find it out yourself.
North East bands and TNT Rocks !!! And that’s the bottom line…. coz’ I said so !!!
Brothers of Metal – Keep the faith alive \mm/
Please help the bands to evolve into professional band instead of pointing a fingers at them or someone who’s helping them like The North East Today magazine. Keep it up TNT

Why is it that no one mentions Heretic and Rat King that were also featured on the album?
Can someone please tell me how do i get my hands on the album ?
Hello guys,
i just saw this blog in indianrockmp3 .com and i truely value your coments.
I agree that the sound quality and layout can be much much better and iam working n this.
Everbody seems to be so passonate and have their own views and they are entitled to and i agree that bands need to make some decent amount of money t make their ends meet.
Irie i can understand what you are trying to say and lets not make this int heated debate as far as i can get we all want music in this region to be promoted and i believe that we all have the best of intention’s here.
I would rather take yur suggestions and try to implement them for future projects as well.
The truth is that it is very difficult t come up with a cd without big sponsors and then give it away free.I really want t give some of these guys a chance t showcase their music and s this initiative. If yu would like t contact me irie then you can do so at editor.tnt@gmail.com and i will try my best to allay your misunderstanding.
Anyway i am writing here because i really would like to thank the website for doing this review….i know guys its really difficult to maintain this esp when sponsrs and advertisment are really hard t come by.
I wuld really like if you can help us with the artwork for the next venture ……we will be putting up your link in our website as well(www.thenortheasttoday.in)
I also would like t thank bands like heretic and Rat King because these guys are so nice and offered their songs when they could have done so otherwise.Guys i really would like to say a big big thank you and yu are free anytime to be my guests here in the region.
Finally to the bands who featured in GER no matter what people say you guys are truly great and this i mean it from the bottom of my heart.
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY IN THE END ALL THE BANDS WHICH HAVE FEATURED IN GER AND ALSO OTHER BANDS WHICH HAVE BEEN NAMED IN THIS BLOG ….They are all good and there are more bands which need the exposure …lets not fight over this issue and hope that there is enough room for all to grow.
Thre are some really good guys out there in the market prmoting musicsuch as Mark(Deja Vu)Gil(mot) keith wallang (springboard suprises ,Trevor lyngwa etc) so lets live and learn to exist
Imao
ok kids enuff is enuff. watz wrong with u guys? y cant u live n let live? pliz spare us ur moronic veiws. who cares wat u guys think! here we r being doled out sum free music, enjoy it n if u dont discard it, end of the matter! u guyz r sick! get a life man!!
Hey Irie why do you criticize when someone tries to help musicians in shillong. If it was not for TNT magazine half of the bands on the CD would not get the recognition they rightfully deserve. Remember the bands featured on the CD are upcoming bands and this pose a GREAT opportunity for them to be heard. If u follow music like i do you would know that when “Metallica” one of the most popular and most respected band in the world started out when they were featured in a Metal compilation called “Metal Massacre Vol I” and the recording during that time was not so good and they were not paid. But something happened…They were heard and people liked what they heard, and look at them now…So dont talk about how bad the recordings were or how bands were not paid but stop and start to appreciate the fact that original music and compositions are coming from this part of India, also the world.!! Instead of pointing your fingers and dragging them down with your criticism. Give them hope and Encourage them to keep doing what they love and Support them.
I would also like to say that Music can never become a “JOB” as you’ve put it.
Well Irie.. from what you have commented, it seems to me all you speak about is money and cannot accept the word GREAT or SUPERB..
Money or Greatness does not come just like that. It takes hard work, time, patience and of course risk. You should put yourself in everyone’s shoes before you start criticizing. I know you mean well for the bands, but they know what they’re going through and the hard life they face. But still they keep on pushing forward with what little they have and HATS OFF TO ALL THE BANDS for their hard work, determination and love for music and a “GREAT” thanks to GER:)
You know you didn’t think properly before criticizing and its ok… But what you are doing is caving your comments with even more ignorance…
anyways, thank you for your comments..
catch up with me in shillong we will try to work and do our bit……u have my email and i Do get your point…..well taken…
irie how about indianrockmp3 they give away the mp3 songs for free as well they dont pay.Are they also ripping of artistes……i know Pradyot and he is a serious music lover and its nt proper for u to criticize him and his mag before you know him.
Anyway looks like he is ok wth ur comments and so lets end this…….I Heard that from this year ther will be no stadium in your hometown …….now thats something TNT should and i hope they will write about.
Heritic and Ratking were great and so was 9Th side and POT4M pip of the 4th mother …..u guys are good and i now know u guys thanks to TNT.
We await the small eastern rock……(ahem) happy
Is it True that Springboard suprise are bringing Mr Big to SHillong on the 12th of October………now Keith is a man ho knows how to promote international music……kool man keep it up ….

why do certain individuals try to bring down people who are trying to do some good.
Please end this debate here. We want this forum to be informative and constructive. Please people, past is past – Be real and LIVE AND LET LIVE !!! Thank you all.
TNT will be coming out with the second album of the Great Eastern Rock. that will surely be interesting to listen.
Irie Syiemlieh(name changed)
hey! you sound like a event manager/promoter/producer/ magistrate and what not…yeah, your views and opinions are ever needed in these kinds of topics but why are you disheathening art to flourished. Why can’t you just sit there and enjoy the view of people(s) ascending or decending the ladder without you being dragged along into it(i.e if you’re not tired cause you’ve already done it for the past 15 years). People do try alot to earn to buy some instruments or infact, form a band, they’re not so fortunate. I know you have alot of problems, but, we don’t need to hear about them…we enjoy listening to these bands with or without shitty recordings, listening to them live on stage and yeah, we know that they don’t have the standard with other indian bands but still, they’re worth an ear…
btw…if you’ve been in the music scene for 15 years how come 90% of the bands haven’t met you or don’t know you but with people like you around who would want to hangout…
have you heard that ‘Afflatus’ or whatever their name is, is opening for Mr Big??? Who are they to open for Mr Big? Is it because that they are associated with the Wahlangs? Ever noticed that the successful bands in Shillong are in one way or the other are associated with the Wahlangs? Is this fair when there are alot of other deserving bands out here in Shillong who are just as good. I’m not trying to target the Wahlangs, it’s just that it’s a fact…I know you know it too and don’t try to deny it by covering it up with some other topics and negotiate…
one know-all smart ass is making this blog-site a shit-hole. will somebody please tell her to shut up n stop the rot!
n if the whole irie thing is a marketing stunt believe me ur too lame n i for 1 am not buying it.
Bwah! ok. everyone has views and opinions.
ok my proposal is…
i dont know who is who in this forum..
but! To Whomsoever it may Concern, why don’t we have a weekly JAM PAD for local bands? there are a lot of bands in the local scene with a lot of potential.
Akhia,MGF, 4th Element,Dwar,Plague throat,Polyticks,Afflatus .. and many others.
When is was in chennai, we had the Woffpac gang(metal) and BAC(Rock) communities. they had weekly friday jam where bands were to play on stage for 1/2 an hour each set and just hang out and converse with other musicians/artists present in the audience whenever theyre not performin. they really helped each other a lot. I remember when Junkyard Groove was just a local band..sigh! Null Friction, Substance,Nerverek, Blind Image,Skrat!
point is. how about weekly jam sessions? considering our bands here have jam place/stage presence issues..
just putting in my few pennies.
Well, there are these places called “the unwind center”. They got permanent sound systems and they had 5-6 people running them.
Non performing bands and spectators had to pay an entry fee, Rs50 and sometimes Rs100 if the bands are good( JYG , Junkhead etc) .. the fee goes to the sound guys/venue owners i guess. its a very small fee to pay considering it is a big city where the cost of living is much more compared to a city like ours.
Hi guys thank you for your comments……We are coming out with the GER Vol 2 in a cople of months time.
I will try to incoporate the suggestions and also try my level best that the band’s get a token of appriciation.
Jason working on the studio and will fill u in soon……Imti gigs are working out as well.
Lets all ensure that we give coverage as well as atleast something for the guys who make music.
Maybe i can think about the rock music foundation where we will give proceeds of Tnt mag so that we can help struggling bands as well as forgotten heroes.
Hey man! I don’t think you can take away anything from TNT for this project, I still stand by my words.. If you know me well ‘every band out there is great to me. ‘ may be they lacked quality at some given point in time, but atleast they ‘tried’. As for ‘great bands’ not being compensated .. man! I bet TNT wasn’t holding gun at any ones head to send songs.. If these bands volunteered for their benefit whats the harm?.
May be you missed the point where i said the mix disappoints. .. Also the TNT guys can take note of your comment and improve the standard for the Vol2.
Hey man, who are you? its obvious i dont know you…forget know you well
No one is asking you to take back your words…far from it! you are entitled to your opinions as much as i am!
Great Eastern Rock…what a rip-off of a name!!! puts us in the NE, in a class below RSJ’s GIR!!!
Great Eastern Rock is what TNT has called their album and for you to think that the bands on the album are GREAT is something i will never comprehend. Can you give me a list of the bands in the NE that you consider GREAT and the reasons why?
No TNT did not put a gun to anyones head, neither did they pay to ensure that the so called Great Bands from the region were on the CD and thus a quality musical product came out from the NE.
We are talking about bands from the NE which is a region i live in too and a place i am proud of. I know theres musical talent here BUT so what, there are talented people everywhere!!!
Since the 60’s and before we have been bragging about how great musicians/bands are herebouts but tell me which bands except for Soulmate & Lou Majaw/Great Society and maybe a couple of mizo bands are going out of the NE to play professionally, dont you think if the bands were as great as you say they are they would have made a strong impact in the national scene by now??? sadly its all ego no substance.
i didnt miss anything in your write up…
no music listener gives a rats ass as to how/where a song is recorded, we should do away with excuses like… ‘we know it is a compilation of bands from 7 different states and recorded in 12 different studio’s it is negligible’ …its the year 2009 not 1909!!! what is a producers role??? … im sure you area aware, forget albums, we have single songs being recorded with different musicians from all over the world sitting in their home studios, streets recording their parts and sending them over to the producer/band for the final mix & mastering etc…they do this without compromise in fact they make this issue a selling point not an excuse!
with unreal reviews like yours, i do not see why TNT or any band for that matter will bother to improve, everything’s already GREAT aint it??? why change???
Hey Regular Joe, I truly would like to know who you are!
Confused about what??? none of the bands mentioned were on the compilation. and i said the bands mentioned were the only bands playing professional, i never said GOOD ! though the fact that the nation acknowledges them say something…
Mixing & Mastering costs money, so if one were to really talk about GREAT…money has to be spent!!!
i have been engaged in music here in the NE for 15 + years, joe, i do know what i am speaking about.
BTW , i too keep a track on Indian Bands hence im here checkin out the blog and writing to you.
The difference is i like to keep it real and not use strong Adjectives like SUPERB, GREAT etc. for general effect.
Hey man! chill, Your comments are welcome, and you are more than welcome to know me, let me know if your email ID is real , i will add you on facebook. My apologies about ‘what have you done remark’ I know i stepped out of the limit.
I am chilled(pun intended)…its cold & rainy here in Shillong
Whats your name? Where are you based? Your email?
I do like the fact that you have started a blog on music. i understand the time & commitment required to do this!
My email is very real though i am not on facebook.
Yes you did step out of the limit and your apologies accepted.
Look forward to your contacts.
Send me your address and we shall send you a copy
Jason i Will buy your album! i buy EVERYTHING out there in the market!
Tell me, could your song have come out way better if you had basic funds for the recording, mixing & mastering
A friendly bit of advice, if your band is 3mnths old i suggest you spend your time practicing real hard rather than going looking for exposure. ive heard you the couple of times you have performed live and i say again, get your band together lock yourselves up in a room/shack/loo and practice practice practice, you have the potential, HARD WORK is needed.
when your ‘ready’, hit the road, join every competition out there, if your ‘good’, there are enough places to play live in India right now
and more than 95% of them are outside the NE
all the besst
GER…LOL!!!!!!!!!
Are you ready anytime to play a 1hr 30min concert of YOUR music if you were invited to play somewhere?
because were egostic when it comes to music, were from the NE were the greatest…LOL!!!
Instead of pointing a fingers…Im not pointing fingers, im being open and affirming my opinion.
Maybe to you, making a musician/band spend his own money to record a song for a commercial magazine is ok, for me it is not PERIOD. EVERYONE ALONG THE CHAIN IS GETTING PAID EXCEPT THE MUSICIAN…SICK!!!! its not about how some bands feel, its about THE VALUE OF A MUSICIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
looks like the ‘executive editor’ of tnt is sending you a copy…enjoy
Isidora James Lyngdoh,
Do learn how to read and then you will understand what I am talking about or, if you are not very good at the English language, just say so and I will excuse you.
There were 2 basic reasons for my response to the review:
1. The use of ‘big words’ like Great, Superb etc. that the reviewer does not fully understand! and what more, you are doing the same…this is not a ‘fight’!!!
2. The fact that the musician gets nothing for the music he/she has created…the cycle continues…musicians have no money and we expect our parents to happily allows us to take up music professionally…LOL!!!
Sadly, I do not have a PHD, because I too started off like you, feeling like I and the rest of my ‘bros’ in the NE were the greatest musician on this planet so while other non NE bands practiced and practiced i was already too good so, no one could teach me…
By the way, i play the bass, drums, harp, percussions, rhythm guitar quite well, i can also get away with playing the keyboards & flute. I’m self taught.
*From here on you will find excerpts from my earlier posts above, in response to your drivel, do read them carefully:
EXERPT…Since the 60’s and before we have been bragging about how great musicians/bands are herebouts but tell me which bands except for Soulmate & Lou Majaw/Great Society and maybe a couple of mizo bands are going out of the NE to play professionally, dont you think if the bands were as great as you say they are they would have made a strong impact in the national scene by now???
EXERPT…and i said the bands mentioned were the only bands playing professional, i never said GOOD! though the fact that the nation acknowledges them says something…
North East Bands are no less than ROCK MACHINE, AGNI, PARIKRAMA…LOL….like I said, its all about…EGO!!!
We here in the NE are better than the rest…LOL…GROW UP!!!
Now tell me, what have (PHOENIX /PHYNYX, CANNIBALS, POSTMARK, WARLOCK, and some bands from other states like MALADROID, EXCALIBUR, ROUGH ROADS, BLADE n BLOOD, RIPRAP, A4APPLE, B4BALL, C4CAT) done? how many original songs? albums? concerts? have they recorded, played outside their home town?
Also, where did you come up with some of those band names & spellings???…LOL!!! FYI I have good friends in the first 3 of the above bands mentioned, they have nothing to show for their musical existence thus far, none of them are playing music professionally!
BOOMARANG, MAGDALENE these are the mizo bands I speak about, though even these guys don’t get to play often.
International…Bangladesh…LOL!!!!
North East is good place for music and rock shows… That’s true only for some pro international bands concerts, for others, let me give you a low down: GIR happened, how many people turned up??? 1000. Rainfest happened with the top Indian heavy bands, how many people turned up??? 500!!!!! Sepultura happened, how many people turned up??? 1800…LOL
Heres what you said: exposure + free publicity…Then you say: All these bands struggled so hard to buy even a set of 6 strings, leave alone the recording process…LOL!!!
Heres what I am saying: EVERYONE ALONG THE CHAIN IS GETTING PAID EXCEPT THE MUSICIAN…SICK!!!! its not about how some bands feel, its about THE VALUE OF A MUSICIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dirt is cheap Isidora James Lyngdoh!!!
EXERPT…no music listener gives a rats ass as to how/where a song is recorded…
You say: bring down any international bands (without equipments)…
I say: know what the’yd do, they would work, find the money, and get the hell out of here…LOL…because its all talk no action!!!
EXERPT…none of the bands were compensated at all!!! is this fair??? is this how one promotes the art of making music??? is this the ‘Great initiative’ you speak about??? …use music to sell magazines and to hell with the musician???
And that’s the bottom line…. coz’ I said so !!!
…LOL!!!
Hey there Eerie….. Don’t try to hide when the damage is done. We can see that you are pointing more than a finger at someone. Get this straight miss……….
Opinion ? Who’s opinion ? Who the genius are you to give some crappy and stinking opinion ? We don’t go by your rule, we go by our own rule. If you think you are very good in giving opinion (which you are not), why don’t you apply for some PA works or tag along with some VIPs ?
If the bands in the GER are not complaining about being paid, who are you to raise your voice ? It seems you did not read the advertisement calling for entries for GER CD. There the publishers, editors of TNT did not promise PAYMENT to the selected bands. ( When i say payment it means any kind of payment like cash / DD / bank transfer / gold / silverwares / real estate / chestfull of gold from some sunken pirate ships / moon rock / salt / mortgage / life insurace blah…. blah….. blah…. ).
Tell me Miss Eerie, do you get paid when you get selected in GIR compilation CD ? Infact, TNT did more than a payment to the selected bands. They are given proper recognition……. and why the hell you are worrying so much about the bands not being paid ? Why is there a pain about this issue ? I would say on behalf of the bands – WE DON’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT BEING PAID FOR BEING FEATURED IN GER Vol. 1 CD !!!
Now, you wake and see the light of the day miss……
EVERYONE ALONG THE CHAIN IS GETTING PAID EXCEPT THE MUSICIAN…SICK!!!! its not about how you or some bands feel, its about THE VALUE OF A MUSICIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kopila Deka, use of such phrases “Why is there a pain in your a** about this issue” is uncalled for. This is an open forum and we are free to express ourselves with decorum. I say you must apologise or I will ask the moderator to bar you in this discussion!
Sorry !!! lol
There it goes. I liked that. Thanks Ed and bye Eerie……..
Good to see you here.
I know it takes effort to get funds etc. but a music project has to first be about the musician in all aspects. Our musicians/bands will never be ‘great’ until and unless parents are totally convinced that what their children are doing is going to give them a proper livelihood. Once convinced, this encouragement from the home to pursue music etc. will set the way for the emergence of truly Great Artistes. So, the only way for this to work is that a musician get paid everytime he/she works because its a job, in music, this has to become a norm.
I also think it would help the music scene and musicians/bands a great deal if we all stopped using words such as GREAT etc when describing our bands. Supporting a band or the scene is one thing, but its more important to be real.
I get the feeling you understand what I mean, most didn’t!
Apology accepted!
i did think this was a forum for discussions such as these.
thats the sickness, music for free or discard it!!! no responsibility
catch up with me in shillong we will try to work and do our bit……u have my email and i Do get your point…..well taken
of crse.
if u saw us the last time we played, that was the only time we ever played. formed the band on june 4th, played a gig on June6th with 6 OCs. Im happy with it considering the fact that the other two were clueless about the songs until 2 days before the show. and FYI, that was my first stage performance as a guitarist/frontman and first gig ever in shillong. I have been a drummer all along. its been 3 months and we had a small lineup change and we have a set list of 21 songs. so..yea.
if we were to be invited, well play!!
i think u have a problem with the CD and not the music
“Tell me, could your song have come out way better if you had basic funds for the recording, mixing & mastering”
But of Course!! isnt it very obvious?!?!?
thanks for the advice..been getting a lot of that but i dont like that “competition” bit.
Competitions in india are very misleading. enuf said!!
now id be glad to have u in my inbox.
invisible.kyd@gmail.com
okthanksbai
…dont be disheartened this is your FIRST try
get real… do you really think you are in a category where people will pay to watch you perform??? if you say yes, do it, dont talk about doing it. if your sure people will show up your bills are paid…whats stopping you???
Its quite obvious you are not a struggling musician…period!
im done replying all the GREATs
Imti, your a guitar player right? wouldnt it have been a proud thing for you if you could have bought your guitar from the money you have earned playing music professionally. isnt it a shame when a musician at heart has to get a govt job etc which they hate and then use this money to pay for their music or even worse ask their mummy/daddy to buy it for them. when will a musician be able to buy his basic equipment from playing music??? when???
well, if you are earning a living doing what you love then its not a job, it all depends how you look at it!
gonjovi, its not about ending this, its about serious discussions on a subject thats close to the hearts of the NE people and finding a way how this talent etc can become a means of a livelihood, not just mere entertainment.
I am glad at least Pradyot understands, this small thing will make a change
…small eastern rock……(ahem) happy… Do Not trivialize the matter!!!
frm what i know firsthand, springboard surprises were promoting the event but because of there not being a venue the show may get shifted to aizawl, not yet confirmed
theres no venue for large scale concerts in shillong….CAN YOU BELEIVE IT???
and how did this happen you may ask? well a fellow ‘music lover’ / ‘promoter’ who owns a football team in shillong decides that since his team got into the i-league no more events should happen at the only stadium available in shillong because events spoil the ground & the govt actually listens to his opinion!!!…sucks!!!
… btw this is the same BIG guy who did local coordination for mltr, scorpions etc. a so called big time music promoter who will proudly go around telling everyone Shillong is the Rock Capital of India…AMAZING!!!
…isnt it very obvious?!?!?… you compromise on something you love to do????
hey man! With all due respect , one more time you sock puppet on my blog ,.I promise you, You will be spammed for good. So stick to one name, You made your point, but don’t lose your credibility ..
Peace
somthn tells me im not wanted here. ok. im out.
mother critic! dont u have anything better to do? tell me wat have u contributed to music apart from ur sarcastic comment. n if the answer is a big “NO” then just shut up. ok ! this forum wud be a better place witout weirdos like u full stop.
Irie, you’re quite right, im not struggling:) Im doing quite well actually..
Next thing Irie syiemlieh will change her/his name to Keith Wahllang,BTW you kidding me Afflatus’ or whatever their name is, is opening for Mr Big? (LMAO) let me suggest a better Artist ‘ Amit Pal’ how about that ? lol hilarious.
Mitchell Shangpliang, this….event manager/promoter/producer/ magistrate…sounds like youve taken it out of the springboard surprises website etc, except for the magistrate part..lol
i cant enjoy the unrealistic views of people same way you and others cant enjoy the ‘views of people’ as in my views,. and i have no problem with that. disheartening…..i dont agree…….it all depends on an individual take on what i am talking about, if one were to understand, im sure lots more could be achieved. going by what the editor of tnt has posted wrt my opinions he has understood and that makes the future a little brighter for the musicians goin at me. im happy!
i dont need hang out partners!
if the wahlangs think that afflatus is good to open for mr.big thats their problem. successful bands associated with wahlangs??? which do you speak about. the only successful band i know associated with the wahlangs is soulmate and yeah they are successful.
target the wahlangs??? you have your views, sure, your allowed to reflect what you think. the only wahlangs i know associated with music are Rudy whos a gentleman and a true pro at what he does, keith whos too opiniated but does do some things, jeremy who sings occasionally with next band but is more into being the Lajong players sounding board
jason, you and everyone involved in music in shillong/ne is required here! would be good if this turns from reaction to my opinions to ideas
music aficionado, in the first place, i got you here with my ’sarcastic comments’, remember that!
music contribution wise…nothing! though i have a lot to say and im saying it! same way you are
im sure the moderator would have put a stop to me if he/she thought ‘this forum wud be a better place without weirdos like me’
doin well playing music professionally? if thats true ’sincere congratulations’.
give me a calendar of your upcoming concerts and i will make the time to check you ou at least once.
ahimsa, youve got it wrong…its not bring down…its bring up! like ive mentioned a lot above, unless we tackle the music issue at the core its never gonna change.
and guess what, from what i hear tnt is offering all the bands on the next project 1rupee from the sale of the magazine, now heres a real start. tnt editor ‘way to go’
Kris…lol!!!
keith wallang…lol!!!
i agree with you, yeah, amit paul would probably get more people to come to a concert than afflatus or any local rock band…lol!!! hilarious indeed…lol!!!
irie u know wat? u r so dumb, even more than i give u credit for. do u understand the words that r commin out of u? does it make any sense to you? i can see that u can put all the feet of northeast in your mouth. guess wat dumb ass im just wasting my time replying to you cos u dont even know wat they means or implies. The sun is yet to shine on you kiddo and maybe it never will.
music aficionado, use of such language about this issue in an open forum is uncalled for. we are all free to express ourselves with decorum.
music aficionado, you dont like to buy much do you? free seems like it for you.
dumb ass im just wasting my time replying…lol
hey irie dont even bother pondering wat i write, these terms are way out of your league. the only thing that impresses me bout you is the amount of cow dung in ur head wonder wat u’ve been eating to stack em up! call guinness ur up for a world record!
OMG!! its a bird, its green n it can talk. i can bet my life that irie wouldnt know wat it is cos she broke her mirror!
were down to gibberish now…l

its also good that your finally loosing your anger and gaining a sense of humor…lol! humor i enjoy better…
