Album Review: BHAYANAK MAUT
By Jitesh Rajan .
Bhayanak Maut’s rise to being one of the leading metal acts in this country is an awe-inspiring story. I remember the ‘Razz’ days (most happening venue in Mumbai for metal gigs ) when Bhayanak Maut was making noise in the underground circuit, with a name meant for raising eyebrows, nobody knew how the music would turn out to be. Their 1st gig at Razz was utter madness with bodies flying everywhere. It was a sight to behold. Five years down the line they are on top of the heap on the Indian metal bandwagon due to their sheer hard work & believing in the music they play.
Listening to the new Bhayanak Maut’s album is like being run over by a freight train with no chance of survival. Brutal & heavy, not meant for the weak hearted. The album artwork is like the ‘Rorschach ink block test.’ It leaves the listener to infer what it means to him. Thus the album name is a mystery to everyone around. One of the best artwork ever by an Indian band.
Sunny & Vinay just rip it up on every track on the album. I was a bit apprehensive when Sunny had joined the ranks from Amidst The Chaos. But all those apprehensions have been laid to rest, He fits in perfectly & gives the band that extra edge to make the band so much complete & unique. Vinay as usual doesn’t disappoint. All these years performing live with BM has just added to his vocal repertoire.
Aditya & Venky are the reason why Bhayanak Maut sounds so insanely tight. The monstrous tones are enough to annihilate any venue. The reason, gut wrenching tones which the twin guitar attack manages to crank out. The guitar paying is fast & furious & at the same time technical. I have seen Venky mature as a guitar player over the years & with Aditya joining in & adding to the riffs, BM’s sound just goes a notch up higher. Rahul is the backbone to the whole BM sound. This guy is a drum machine & BM’s music does warrant a sound drummer like Rahul. He has grown into one of the most talented drummers in the country. With Vinit completing the line up with his accomplished bass playing, BM is a force to reckon with in the indian metal scenario.
My favorite tracks of the album include Tit for Twat, Msn Messenger, Habemus Papam, Ungentle & the anthemic You are perfect now change. Bhayanak Maut is a band made of supremely talented musicians who are pretty much serious about their music & how they sound like when they hit the stage.
The album is a perfect answer to all those critics which accused the band of sounding like international acts. To me they sound pretty unique with their latest effort & yeah Anupam Roy has given the knockout punch with his production.
Grey & Saurian have done a tremendous job by backing this band & putting out a quality record for the metal hungry audiences around the world. You pretty much have a winner all the way with this record.

any mp3 on this album released yet?
Indian metal has never impressed me to be honest, and this record doesnt either.it has always been a lame ripoff of most scandinavian bands, not to mention the cheap production. And is this how a professional review is written? Sorry,am on the wrong website.Id rather dig a decent review of Five Finger Death Punch or Atreyu than see this sorry review.
^^ If you would have mentioned some original bands, i would have respected your opinion. But the fact that you mentioned a band that is from the whiny Orange county emo scene and another that comprises of quasi-hiphop quasi-angry homomonger fakers completely changes this around. Good luck with the wrist slitting. Remember, down the road – not across the street
