Album Review: Inside of Me – INFERNAL WRATH
By Jitesh Rajan .
I remember when i was in high school being a fresh metalhead during the MTV days..
Metallica were commercially big with the Black album & Megadeth with Countdown to Extinction. Slayer had released Seasons in the Abyss & thrash metal was up & running with other such acts as Exodus,Testament & Anthrax…
During this time Sepultura were quitely trying do something different & experiemnt with their brand of metal. With ‘Chaos Ad & Roots‘ they redefined the face of heavy music by bringing in local & indigenious influences.Though “Arise” still remains my favourite Sepultura album, but Chaos Ad & Roots made me respect the band much more. It was something which i had heard for the 1st time & the idea of experimenting really worked.
Its albums like these which make a difference to a burgeoning scene & gives it the right thrust to being recognised.
‘Inside Of Me’ – Infernal Wrath’s debut album has done the same for the up & coming metal scene in india. I felt the same when i heard the debue effort of bangalore based metal act ‘Millenium‘ in the mid 90’s or lately the delhi based ‘Acrid semblance‘ record. This album is up amongst the best due to its sheer intensity & novelty. Its so different from your run of the mill metal records because of the fact that it has so much to offer in terms of approach & musicianship to the 11 tracks on the play list.
Metalheads are in for a surprise, a few of the tracks are downright ambient & very typically non metal,acoustic/piano instrumentals/intros which lead you to the mayhem thereafter..
Classical/Spiritual influences very well textured into their compositions which makes the songs unique & thus stand out from the usual metal you listen to. Songs like – “The Truth ,Turmoil, Siddhartha, Creation of lotus”
The heavy tracks are skull crushers ( tracks like Funeral Pyre, Inside of me, Behold Ezekiel, Footholds of palestine ). Pradeep ( ex DR ) is a revelation, some insane riffage complemented by solos i have not heard him do before.
Everyone needs to give this track called the “Destruction of the third Temple” a listen. I was nursing a sore neck for a few days after listening to it.JP behind the kit takes you back to the metal school of drumming. He is one of the most respected drummers in the country. Afaque has done justice with his vocals, his strength lies when he is performing live ,But nothin to take away from his effort in the studio. He has really worked hard and it shows in the final output. At the end of the day you feel really happy for these guys since they have been working their ass off for this record and they have tried the best to make a difference.
Anupam Roy is just the perfect man behind the boards for the production on the album. Infernal would have never sounded as refreshing and unique if he was not in charge.
Go out and buy this one..This one has to be my record of the year by an indian band till date.

i totally agree… this album is excellent…. tough to believe it was recorded by an indian band….. there are several great bands & they are awesome, but to get that ‘perfect’ sound in the studio, makes the album even more enjoyable…

yes i would also that the album is refreshing n pretty unique, but in some tracks i think is overdone. As opening track sound some sort of bollywood music n in all song the vocals are too supressed. Pradip has done very good job on guitar.especially the keyboard solo track, hope it was on guitar. Jp, afaque u r fantastic. I think the bass was missing somewhere….
