bijit-bora

One of my earliest memories of this ‘rock n roll journey dates back to the early 90’s when Bijit Bora and his Band ( don’t remember the name ) gained a cult status in and around Manipal/Mangalore as they were the winners of almost ‘every competition’ …. almost 20 years later, Bijit hasn’t lost it at all.  His band PSYX won the Ironize contest held at St Xaviers college, Mahim on 7th of March ( headlined by Workshop and Brahma ).
Bijit has his own youtube channel where he gives guitar lessons , and teaches guitar in person to  students in his home town of  Mumbai  (  Bijit Bora Fan club ) .

Hey i’m from bijit da’s hometown called jorhat in assam. What can i say about him? He’s a super cult figure even out here. Taught guitars to young kids when i was still not old enough to go to school. But sadly i missed the bus.

One of the pioneers of heavy metal in the state. Was part of a band called faith that even went on to win one of india’s biggest rock shows – the independence rock in bangalore!

Does a lot for promoting rock and roll in his hometown still. Did a pro bono gig for us jorhatians this january 2nd. Jorhat which has seen the likes of Mantra and Dark Horizon was simply blown away by their explosive set! Never seen anything like it before from an indian band even though been to see bands like pentagram, sceptre, parikrama, mantra, III sovereign and so many more.

Keep metchuling bijit da and wish you and psyx a very bright future!

    *bows and respect*

The above photo of bijit da playing his legendary white kramer is from the jorhat gig on 02.01.09. Was a show to remember. See leon on the bass is wearing the traditional assamese ‘gamocha’ around his neck!
