13AD – GROUND ZERO

February 2, 2009

13ad

I became a believer in Indian Rock the day i managed to save 30INR  from my ‘pocket money’ and buy the 13AD tape . It was amazing , every song meant something special . Some years later got a chance to watch them play Live , the moment i cherish even today. GROUND ZERO the ground breaking debut album of 13AD was released in 1990 . Their hit song Ground Zero was aired by the ‘only’  TV channel DoorDarshan every weekend at sometime after 10pm ( which was pretty late back then :)   ) . Unfortunately i lost the tape  , but i found few songs on rsjonline .  Read Album Review here .

These guys are great with amazing talent. Where are they now?

  2. April 19, 2009 2:52 pm

Dubai .. i think they have band called PH7 which is mostly covers .

  3. April 19, 2009 3:35 pm

They were much ahead of their time but unfortunately we Mallus didnt give them the proper encouragement,I think that they also had a setback when one of their members died in an accident.

I’m not sure if there was any death , but Glenn La Rive got ‘born again’ at Potta ( Met him there :P ) .

You still read my blog ?? Makes me happy :P

You definitely have brought back bittersweet memories from my past and I THANK YOU for that.
I remember as a bassist in a college band we used to play covers of 13AD (Revelations, Ground Zero) and even received compliments from the band members themselves (They were the headliners of a rock show at an engineering college and as the ruling local band we opened for them)
You will definitely not believe the time I have spent and the places I have looked to get a complete album (GROUND ZERO) of 13AD on CD.
I actually owned a tape of “GROUND ZERO” once upon a time long long ago, but I just can’t find it anywhere (shame on me)
I hate to make comparisons but there never was and never will be another band like 13AD (Rock Machine were close)
Incidentally I prefer the band Rock Machine to Indus Creed (If you know what I mean)
Also I read in your blog about somebody comparing you to RSJ (you, in your reply, rightly considered it a compliment). Back then, in the late 80’s when RSJ launched its first issue (It looked more like the pages of a newspaper stapled together than a magazine) we had to pay the local “newspaper vendor” in advance to get the magazine.

Back then there were a lot of rock bands. But very few actually stood out
My TOP 5 best Indian rock bands are:
    1. 13AD
    2. Rock Machine
    3. Millennium
    4. Lou Majou
    5. (Toss up between) AGNI and KRYSYS

My dream Indian Rock Band would be

Eloy Isaccs, Lead & Rhythm Guitars (13AD)
Mahesh Tinaikar, Lead & Rhythm Guitars (Rock Machine)
    Verhnon, Vocals (Millennium)
    Roberto, Drums (Millennium)
    Malcolm, Bass (Millennium)
    Jackson Aruja, Keyboards (13AD)

You seem to be doing an amazing job and I am sure guys like me (who are long past their teens) everywhere will always wish you well.

    KEEP THE FLAME BURNING!!

MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE SONG “REVELATIONS” IS NOT COMPLETE

    Thanks Ajoy !

This is the most heart felt compliment i ever received since the blog started , I know every word you said ! because i felt it was me who was writing the comment. I have tried high n low to get These albums, but no avail.. i will check the revelation version that i have , if its complete i will send it you .

Meanwhile help me keep the flame burning !

    Thanks a Million !

    Thanks War Dog!!
I will look forward to hearing from you.
The only issue with the “REVELATIONS” version that is on the blog is that it is just 1Min 21Sec (1.25MB) while the track is actually 3Min 39 Sec (check the Album cover at the top)

I hope to god you get the complete track because if I remember right, 13AD as usual save their best for the last.

Meanwhile I am a firm believer of the old adage “SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING” or “A BIRD (TRACK) IN HAND IS WORTH TWO IN A BUSH”

Take heart, War dog the fire was there long BEFORE you and me and it will be there long AFTER you and me.

THE FIRE WILL ALWAYS CONTINUE TO BURN MY FRIEND!!

Undoubtedly one of the most original & unbelieveably talented Indian rockers of all times. I used to visit Sea Lord in Cochin just to hear them play! Amazing bunch of guys. The bass lines, drumming, lead and keys were all top notch. As much as I loved the overall sound of the band, I think Glen was the weak link. George’s vocals were incredible but I think the band’s dynamics changed with his entry. It really pains me to know that they are playing covers now. They deserve to reach incredible heights. I had heard that they were working on a new album. Wonder what happened to it.

@ Sunil, : I think 13AD members play for a cover band PH7 in Dubai, Also the third album seems to be docked since there had been misunderstanding between band members, Poor George, never got his name on a 13AD album :(
